With the new World Handicap System introduced early last year we had hoped by now it would allow international tourists to enter Spanish Federated only tournaments. Unfortunately, this still is not the case. Although some Spanish Clubs will allow non-Spanish federated players to enter a tournament, in most cases they will not be able to claim prizes. Let´s hope that the WHS can be properly regulated sooner rather than later.
Living permanently in Spain or planning to live part-time and want to become Spanish Federated?
The advantage of being federated with the Spanish Golf Federation is that it will allow you to play in hundreds of golf tournaments across Spain!
Most are Stableford format, 18 holes and due to the increase in popularity of golf a relatively new category has been opened for golfers with handicaps more than 21 as well as specific tournaments for beginners.
1st category: 0-12.1
2nd category: 12.2 – 21
3rd category: 21,1 -36
Obtaining a Spanish Federated Golf licence is easy. You will need 1-2 lessons with a Golf Club Pro nearest to you and they will assess your handicap and help you with the application process which is straightforward.
The cost is 96 € per year + 12 € admin fee.
